Happy ending to DeKalb County flag controversy

Posted: Updated:
DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -

A small gesture by a military veteran turned into a large one for an entire Chamblee community.

Earlier this year, 76-year-old Armond Noah, a Korean War veteran, told FOX 5 that several American flags that he had displayed outside his residence seniors were removed without notice. Noah lives at Ashford Landing Senior Residences a federally-subsidized apartment complex for seniors in DeKalb County.

Eventually, the DeKalb County Housing Authority returned Noah's flags.

"What happened was genuinely a mistake. At the beginning it was a mistake. We had acknowledged that," said Paula Gwynn Grant of the DeKalb County Housing Authority.

The complex then went a step further, agreeing to erect a flagpole for all residents. A flag installation ceremony featuring students from Chamblee High School was held on Wednesday.

Noah said he was proud to see flag go up. He said he was so impressed with the ROTC students that he will contact the high school and offer to volunteer.
