A customer claims a local nail salon denied her service because of her weight.
According to Shawanna Thompson, she was told her weight was a problem and she would probably break their pedicure chair.
It's an embarrassing moment Thompson says she isn't keeping quiet about.
"It was very shocking and astonishing that someone would come and out of the blue exclaim that I was too big to get a pedicure," said Thompson.
She says she was denied service by the manager at Airtex Nail Salon in north Houston.
"She said yes you are too big, our chairs cost $2,000 and you are going to break the chair. I said I have been here before."
We went there and tried speaking to the manager. We were told she wasn't there and no one could talk to us. They told us our cameras were not allowed inside.
Since the issue was the $2,000 chair, we went to Galleria Nails where they have $1,500 chairs.
They say they've had all shapes and sizes come in and the chair is never an issue.
"They can sit down and we can move the chair and adjust the chair a little bit. They sit, but I never thought they would break the chair. Never. If they are too big then we don't lift the arm rest down," said Suong Huynh, manager of Galleria Nails.
Thompson says she's never going back and just wants others to learn from this experience.
"You have a choice. You don't ever have to take any disrespect or discrimination. You have to say something about it."
Thompson says she is reaching out to people on Facebook.
