Billy Joel announces extended concert series at MSG

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) - The man who brought the world the hit song 'New York State of Mind' is returning to the Big Apple.

Rocker Billy Joel announced on Tuesday that he has added a show to a series of concerts planned for Madison Square Garden beginning in 2014.

The concert series will continue once a month for as long as fans demand it.

“Growing as a young aspiring musician in Hicksville, New York, Madison Square Garden was New York to me. It’s where artists become stars and athletes become legends. There is no better venue in the world. Playing the Garden never gets old," said Joel who was born in the Bronx.

The first four shows are sold out. At the time of the announcement late Tuesday morning, tickets were still available for the May 9 performance.

According to the Garden's website, tickets range from $64.50 - $124.50 for the four concerts slated for Jan. 27, Feb. 3, Mar. 21 and Apr. 18.

An exclusive presale for the May 9 show - which is Joel's 65th birthday- begins December 4 at 10am through December 6 at 10 pm. Tickets for the general public go on sale on Dec. 7 at 10 a.m..

“Since his first show in 1978, Billy has performed 46 shows at Madison Square Garden, including an unprecedented 12 consecutive sold-out shows that have earned Billy a spot among the Garden greats with a banner raised in his honor. Today, we take that relationship even further and are extremely honored to have Billy as The Garden’s first music franchise,” said James L. Dolan, executive chairman, The Madison Square Garden Company.

The six-time Granny award winner becomes the "fourth franchise" at the Garden joining the Knicks, Rangers and Liberty who call the arena home.

Everyone hates long lines at security checkpoints and the TSA knows it. Now the TSA is sponsoring a contest to encourage anyone with new ideas about how to make the airport security lines go faster. Often for air travelers, the security checkpoint experience is the worst part of their trip. That's why the TSA turned to the crowdsourcing site Innocentive asking for ideas pledging a total of $15,000 in prize money, with at least one $5,000 award.

Deep beneath the hustle and bustle of Tribeca lies a modern-day oasis brimming with old world charm: Aire Ancient Baths, my new favorite city escape. The breathtaking spa is illuminated by hundreds of candles and smells of invigorating eucalyptus. For around $80 you can bathe in the tranquil blue pools for 90 minutes and find the temperature that's right for you.

From coffee shops in Brooklyn to restaurants in Manhattan, we find speakeasies standing out by blending in. When people in Bushwick want a green machine juice blend they visit Leticia Castillo's Owl Juice Pub. But first they must find the owl. "We been doing fine without a sign," Castillo says.
