Coast Guard rescues 2 from boat on Ga coast

Posted: Updated:

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. (AP) - Coast Guard crews rescued two men after their fishing boat ran aground at Jekyll Island.

The Coast Guard says 55-year-old William Collins and 25-year-old Josh Carter were taken off the 55-foot boat early Saturday at the island's southern tip. Neither was injured.

The boat lost power before dawn and ran aground in 3-foot waves. It began taking on water, and the men used a marine radio to call for help.

A helicopter crew from Savannah, Ga., hoisted the men off the boat because the water was too shallow for another vessel to come alongside.

The men were taken to the Jekyll Island Airport, where they were checked out by medical workers.

The boat was carrying about 300 gallons of diesel fuel, but the Coast Guard says it isn't leaking.
