The last thing you want to do is take your child to a doorstep of a registered sex offender.
Hundreds of sex offenders were the target for law enforcement this Halloween night to keep your children safe.
Officers say more than 7200 registered sex offenders live in Harris County. Of those, 221 are on parole or probation in Precinct 6 and got a visit from law enforcement.
"We really don't have to make contact with anyone because there are no violations of probation. We have a few more addresses that we are checking," said Deputy Daniel Alaniz with Harris County Precinct 6.
Deputy Alaniz along with several others with Precinct 6 went door to door to each sex offender on probation or parole. They were looking for Halloween decorations or anything that would attract kids to go to knock on their door.
"It's dangerous because some of these sex offenders have been convicted of felony crimes including sexual assault of a child or sexual assault of an adult," said Lt. Julio Banda.
Many sex offenders live across the street to kids or even next door.
"I told my granddaughters to not go there," said Luis Estrada who lives two houses down from a sex offender. "I feel scared because of the kids... they are not all mine but anyway I am scared."
He's starting a petition with other neighbors to try to get the sex offender to move from the neighborhood heavily populated by children.
Officers say this Halloween night, almost all sex offenders complied by the rules.
