For three years Kylee Mendez and her dog Ziggy were inseparable. Now the energetic little poodle is gone leaving behind an emotional hole far bigger than her tine body.
"I don't know who has him. If she's nice or mean. I just hope he's safe and not scared."
Ziggy went missing on Monday. Kylie and her sister Anniston had been out in the back yard. The two girls went in and Kylee thinks she locked Ziggy out. She thinks he wiggled through a hole in the fence. Regardless. The dog is missing. She and her mom combed the neighborhood putting up signs.
This would be an ordeal for any 16 year old, but it's even worse for her. Among her challenges Kylee 's body can't produce cortisol, the hormone that helps you deal with stress..
"Some kind of stressful event happens we have to triple her dose of medication just to keep everything else in check. We've all lost our appetite. Nobody's really eating." Says he mom Robin Burson.
A day after the disappearance they got a break in the form of an eyewitness .A neighbor actually saw this go down. He saw two women put the dog into their car. He even spoke to them. They gave him a lame excuse about why they were putting the dog in the car. But this is the age of the smart phone and every smart phone has a camera.. So is there is a picture.
"Ziggy is in that car. He is in there!" said Robin.
There's just one problem. You can't make out the license plate. It's just too blurry. But it's a white Cadillac Escalade with a sticker in the left hand side of the rear window.
It's not the most solid of leads but it's something. Something to give them a little hope that Ziggy might find his way home. That Kylee can go a few more years before learning how cruel the world can be. That someone could steal a girl's beloved pet. a pet that is in a word her everything. "Like my child." She said.
