8-year-old with rare blood disorder crowned "Queen for a Day"

Posted: Updated:
HELEN, Ga. -

Emma Routh, an 8-year-old with a rare blood disorder that leads to bone marrow failure, took part in her first pageant on Sunday.  Her blue eyes have seen many things for someone so young-- including bone marrow transplants.

Emma suffers from fanconi anemia, but on Sunday, she saw the judges and crowd cheering her courage instead.  That's the way it should be for the little girl whose personality sparkles like the sequins on her pink dress-- because she prefers to talk of other things that hospital visits.

FOX 5's Kaitlyn Pratt caught up with Emma at the Natural Elegance Pageant in Helen. She was the special guest brought to the stage by organizers to celebrate her bravery. She had personally won just by making it there, but pageant judges crowned her "Queen for a Day."

Those in attendance and several businesses in Helen donated toys and gift cards which will go towards rewarding children like Emma.
