A Houston Metro police officer finds himself stuck on desk duty after a theft that's left him without the tools of the trade.
Fox 26 news has learned an officer with the transportation agency has not only had his gun stolen this week but his taser, police radio, back up gun, and his gun belt.
Sources tell the Fox 26 the officer was working out at a 24 Hour Fitness facility when thieves hit his personal vehicle where the equipment was stowed.
Jerome Gray with Metro confirms the officer has been placed on administrative duty while an investigation into his missing equipment is underway.
I've also been told this officer is accused of leaving behind or losing his service weapon in the past.
That's a fact Gray says he can not confirm and has no record of in the employee's file.
However, a source who works for the department says the officer has left his gun behind before in roll call, a bathroom, and a third location.
If you see someone with all of this public servants equipment please contact Metro!
Statement from Gray at Metro:
The officer reported to police that his personal car was broken into at a 24 Hour Fitness, and his gun, gun belt, taser, and police radio were stolen. Officer XXXXX has been reassigned to administrative duty pending the outcome of an investigation. So far we have not found any documentation that he has lost a gun before. MPD is continuing to work this and hopefully I will know more by Monday or Tuesday.
