Parts of Prospect Park to close for Obama's visit, but what parts?

Posted: Updated:

Parts of Prospect Park in Brooklyn will be closed Friday due to a visit by President Barack Obama, but what parts is not clear.

The closures will begin at noon and last until 6 p.m. Friday when the president visits a nearby high school, the AP and other media outlets reported. Originally, reports indicated that the entire 500-acre park will be closed because Obama is set to arrive by Marine One in the park. The president is scheduled to visit Pathways in Technology Early College High School.

However, a message posted Thursday afternoon to the Facebook page of the Prospect Park Alliance indicated that parts of the park will be open.

When asked the clarify what parts of the park will remain open to the public, the Prospect Park Alliance did not elaborate.

"Please note that only portions of Prospect Park will not be accessible on Friday, October 25 during the President's visit," the alliance said in a statement emailed to MyFoxNY.com. "The closure will not affect the entire park. We apologize for the inconvenience and any confusion associated with earlier messages."

Thousands of people use the park every day, including local runners. The website Brooklyn Based reported that nearby Green-Wood Cemetery, which is normally off limits to runners, is offering them a sanctuary Friday: runners will be allowed to run the paths of the landmark graveyard from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Burger chain Five Guys is testing the adage that everything tastes better with bacon. It is rolling out a customizable milkshake program and along with bananas, peanut butter, Oreo cookies, salted caramel, you can chose bacon.  Yes that's right: a bacon milkshake.

Timothy Cardinal Dolan gathered religious and city leaders with the focus of how to ease tensions between police and the community in advance of this Saturday's march to protest the death of Eric Garner. Some of the leaders in this group are rarely photographed together, let alone seated at the same table. But they were brought together over concerns about possible protest violence by the cardinal, one of the most powerful figures in the city and who commands respect across the board.
