NEW LONDON, Conn. (AP) - A plea deal with a Ledyard man accused of stealing a widow's life savings has been delayed after he appeared in court drunk.

John Skok was ordered by New London Superior Court Judge Hillary Strackbein to take a breathalyzer test Monday after he denied accusations by the prosecutor he was drunk. The Bulletin reports that Assistant State's Attorney Lawrence Tytla said Skok had a blood-alcohol content of 0.14. The limit for motorists is 0.08.

The 59-year-old Skok is accused of helping his wife, Joanne Skok, steal a Montville woman's life savings. Joanne Skok is serving a 10-year prison sentence after being convicted in May.

John Skok faces charges of first-degree larceny and attempt to commit first-degree larceny.

The judge raised his bail to $50,000 cash only and ordered him taken into custody.
