Mother: Missing Army soldier located

Posted: Updated:

UPDATE: Ian Henderson's mother tells our sister station in Phoenix that he has been found. Tami Henderson told FOX 10 that Ian was located in Arizona and is safe.

ORIGINAL STORY:

An Arizona mother is worried about her missing 18-year-old son.

Tami Henderson said that her son, U.S. Army Pvt. Ian Henderson, boarded a Delta flight last Thursday from Phoenix headed to Atlanta, where he was supposed to have caught a connecting flight to South Carolina.

However, police in Phoenix told FOX 5's Aungelique Proctor that surveillance footage shows Henderson exit the TSA line, run through the airport and jump into the passenger's side of car which then took off.

Henderson was home on leave after shattering his elbow in military exercise, according to his mother. The 18-year-old was heading back to basic training in Fort Jackson when he disappeared. Earlier on Monday, Tami Henderson said that she didn't believe her son had gone AWOL.

"The Army doesn't believe he is either," she said. "They said he's a great soldier. He's everything that they look for in a soldier."

The mother has gotten an amazing response from friends and strangers on Facebook. Several people have offered to come to Atlanta to search for the soldier.

After four days of not knowing, Tami just wants her son found.

"As time goes by, my worry is that it's not going to be a safe situation, but I need to know what happened to my son either way," Tami Henderson said.

A spokesperson for Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport said that since authorities say that Henderson never boarded the plane in Phoenix, police are not investigating his disappearance.

Ian's mother insists that his boarding pass was used. It's unclear who used that boarding pass.

The 18-year-old was last seen wearing his Army uniform with a black brace on his right for arm. He recently had major reconstructive surgery on his arm and may be in need of medication.
