Gas prices falling amidst partial government shutdown

Posted: Updated:
ACWORTH, Ga. -

The partial government shutdown is having a positive effect on gas prices.

Drivers in Acworth were paying $3.04 a gallon for regular unleaded on Wednesday afternoon.

According to AAA, prices could continue to tumble for the next two weeks for a number of reasons. The government shutdown has decreased demand.  Prices traditionally fall after the end of summer because of less road travel, and the blend of gasoline this time of year is cheaper.

According to GasBuddy.com, the average price in metro Atlanta is $3.23 a gallon. One year ago, drivers paid $3.58 per gallon.

Before now, the lowest recent price was $3.12 back in December of last year.

Prices had risen as high as $4.13 a gallon in September.

Drivers FOX 5 talked to on Wednesday said they were just fine with the lower prices.
