Fulton County school district considering buzzer entry system

ATLANTA (AP) - Fulton County school board officials say they're considering spending more than $425,000 to install door buzzer entry systems in the county's public schools.

The board is expected to vote on the proposal during an Oct. 15 meeting, and officials say the systems would be paid for through the county's one-percent local option sales tax.

Superintendent Robert Avossa told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (http://bit.ly/1aaSGn0 ) district officials have been considering the security measure since last year. Avossa says video and audio monitoring components could give the schools "an added layer of security."

District spokeswoman Susan Hale says if approved, the systems would be installed at elementary schools beginning in November. The systems would be installed in the district's middle and high schools by the end of the school year.
