Long Island clerk fends off robber with machete

BRENTWOOD, N.Y. (AP) - Police on Long Island have released a video of a storekeeper chasing away a robbery suspect with a machete.

The attempted robbery at a convenience store in Brentwood happened on Sept. 25. Suffolk County police released the video on Monday.

In the video, the gunman enters the store and points a .22 caliber handgun at the clerk. The clerk, who is not identified, pulls a machete from a sheath under the counter and when he threatens the strike the gunman, the assailant flees without any loot from the store.

The final shot in the video shows the storekeeper chasing the robber through a parking lot.

Detective Lt. Kevin Breyer says police have been receiving tips about the suspect since the video was released, but there have been no arrests.
