BERKELEY, Calif. (AP) -- Olympic star Missy Franklin won the 100 backstroke and anchored California's winning 400 medley relay team in her first collegiate home meet Friday.

Franklin helped the Golden Bears down Washington State 164-89 in the Pac-12 dual meet.

Franklin, who owns the world record in the 200 back, won the 100 back in 54.37 seconds.

In the medley relay, Franklin hit the water for the final lap in third place. She went 48.09 and the Golden Bears won the event by 45 seconds.

Spanish Olympian Marina Garcia also is a freshman at Cal. She won the 1,000 free in 10:20.53 and the 200 breaststroke in 2:17.51.

Heading into the U.S. Open, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray have won 36 of the past 38 Grand Slam titles, a stretch dating to the 2005 French Open. Nowadays, there seems to be a growing sense — or hope, maybe — among the best of the rest on the men's tennis tour that the quartet might be more vulnerable than ever.

Out of over 500 hopefuls only a handful will join the Brooklyn Nets Kids Dance Team. The Nets held auditions this week at LIU Brooklyn. Adorable Bronx native Arielle was turned away last year but this time around she's made it through to the final round of the auditions. But even those who were on the team last year still have to try out.
