The number of allergies is skyrocketing. Some reports show as many as one-in-five Americans is allergic to something, including different types of food. The important question is: Is there anyway to reduce this obnoxious and potentially life-changing problem?

ATLANTA -

The Affordable Care Act got off to a rocky start this week.

The federally-run insurance exchange website healthcare.gov opened for business Tuesday. The site serves Georgia and 35 other states. Within hours, it was hit with a massive amount of traffic and hiccups began, leaving many consumers frustrated.

Andy Miller of the politically independent Georgia Health News says expect more bumpy days to come.

"There's going to be glitches at the beginning, but the important thing to know is you've got from Oct. 1 to mid-December to sign up for a plan that will take effect in January," Miller said.

If you're not sure if you need health insurance, or which plan is best for your family, an insurance navigator may help – if you can find one.

In Georgia, dozens of navigators have completed their federal training, but are still trying to get their state certification and background check completed.

By launch day Tuesday, only four had been state-certified, and 23 more were waiting on background clearances.

At an information meeting for consumers, Dante McKay with Enroll America said it may take time to meet face-to-face with a navigator, but he or she can help you break down your individual options.

"Today is the start of a long process, and we see this as a marathon and not as a sprint. We're happy it's finally here, and now people can start to get the help that they need," McKay said.

Consumer groups are warning Georgians to be careful about Obamacare fraud.

Even before the sign-up period began, the Federal Trade Commission was already receiving complaints.

Some seniors said that got a call telling them they needed a special Medicare card, and the caller was asking for their bank account and Social Security numbers.

If you have Medicare, you don't need a new card and you don't need to shop for insurance because you already have coverage.
