COWETA COUNTY, Ga. -

A Coweta County woman is accused of making moonshine. Police said they stumbled on the moonshine distillery while searching for a missing elderly woman.

Allyson McClendon was arrested Tuesday morning after being accused of manufacturing and selling alcohol. Police are still looking for her son, William Chattam, who faces the same charges.

Authorities said they also found some marijuana plants.

"These were potted in the backyard," said John Curtis, an investigator at the Coweta County Sheriff's Office. "Inside the residence, there was marijuana plants drying as well as marijuana plants packaged in baggies."

McClendon's friend, Rufus Kittle, insisted that there was no moonshine-making going on. He said that McClendon was only purifying water. Kittle also denied that the mother and son were growing marijuana plants.

"Probably came out of some bird seeds or something, but they were nothing to be bragging about," said Kittle.

Authorities said that McClendon and her son face felony charges for the marijuana and moonshine.
