Houston Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow told FOX 26 Sports on Tuesday that he may consider negotiating an extension this offseason with All-Star catcher Jason Castro.
"Jason had a tremendous year," Luhnow said. "He was our MVP. He's going into his arbitration years. This would be a natural time to begin discussions about keeping him here for the long term.
"He's the type of player, both in terms of how he plays as well as how he conducts himself in and out of the clubhouse, that fits the profile of the type of player we would like to have around for a long time."
Drafted in the first round in 2008, Castro just completed his third full season with the Astros big league club.
He missed the entire 2011 season because of a knee injury.
In 2013 Castro it .276 with 18 home runs and 56 RBIs.
