NW Harris Co robbers target the wrong victim

Posted: Updated:

An attempted robbery in Northwest Harris County ends in a shootout.  Harris County Robbery investigators say four family members were returning home from a wake around 10:30 Sunday night in the 17000 block of Ponderosa Pines, when the last person out of the vehicle was approached by a masked gunman who demanded money.

Another person who had gotten out of the vehicle earlier heard what was going on.  That person turned out to be a retired federal agent who was armed.  The retired federal agent drew his weapon.    Investigators say the suspect fired one shot in the direction of the two victims, the retired federal agent returned between one to three shots, hitting the suspect.

The suspect was able to flee the scene but a person matching his description showed up a short time later at Memorial Hermann Northwest for treatment of gunshot wounds.

That person was treated and taken into custody for questioning.   Investigators with the Harris County robbery division think these same suspects may be responsible for number of similar robberies that happened in the area earlier Sunday evening.
