Katy ISD and Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office are investigating a shooting that happened on the campus of Tompkins High School off the 44-hundred block of Falcon Landing drive just after 6:11 a.m. on Friday morning.
According to an alert sent by Katy ISD to parents, the victim was a cafeteria worker at the school. Witnesses have told FOX 26 two school coaches discovered the woman bleeding and attempted CPR until paramedics arrived. According to the district the woman later died at Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital.
Katy ISD confirmed the identity of the cafeteria worker as 46-year-old Valerie Robinson, reporter Tom Zizka has learned.
The district is also saying that the suspect was the victim's estranged husband and he fled the scene to a home in Brookshire. After a several hour standoff with several law enforcement agencies, SWAT entered the home to find the suspect dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Katy ISD says the shooting on campus took place before a majority of students arrived and because the suspect had already fled the scene no lock down was ordered and school started as usual.
The district is allowing concerned parents to pick up their students if they feel the need to.
Tompkins was the most recent campus added to the Katy ISD system and was only open three weeks when the shooting took place.
