Houston Police investigators are still trying to unravel a chaotic scene that ended in a hail of gunfire on Allen Parkway at Studemont.
Houston Police say they noticed a man acting suspicious outside a convenience store on I-45 and Monroe just before 2 a.m. on Monday. Police say the suspect took off when police approached.
Police continued to follow the vehicle as it made its way toward downtown. A spokesman for the Houston Police department says several times during that chase, the suspect would stop his car and fire at police officers.
The driver eventually exited Interstate 45 at Allen Parkway. The chase only last a few miles when the driver crashed at the 1900 block of Allen Parkway.
Immediately upon crashing the driver fled the vehicle and started to run up a tree embankment on Allen Parkway and continued to shoot at police officers.
That's when four Houston Police officers responding and fearing for their life, discharged their duty weapon, striking and killing the suspect.
A female who was also in the car tried to run but she was apprehended without incident.
