New security procedures will be in place as students return to Spring High School Monday morning. Students will only be allowed to enter the school from two entrances, the main front entrance or at the back of the building by the band hall.
Students will be subject to portable metal detectors or by hand held wand. In addition to metal detectors there will be increased security from both Spring ISD police and local law enforcement agencies.
Students will only be allowed to use clear backpacks or a large, clear Ziploc-type bag. Girls may only bring purses that are no bigger than a loaf of bread. Any bags brought into the school are subject to be searched.
The district has been able to secure a large number of clear backpacks but doesn't have supply in hand yet for parents who are having trouble finding one. The district said it will offer those backpacks free of charge to students.
Trained crisis counselors will also be on hand to help students who are struggling with last weeks violence on campus.
Spring ISD is also scheduling several meetings to listen to the concerns of parents and answer questions directly. The sessions are limited to 75 people. Parents can start registering for one of the sessions at Noon on Monday.
Registration will be on the schools website or by calling 281-891-7000.
Tensions among Spring High School students are still high. Sunday night during a memorial service for slain student Joshua Broussard a fight broke out outside of Spring Baptist Church. At least 8 shots rang out, sending those inside ducking for cover. Harris County Deputies say there was a comment made that members of a group called "Brown Pride" were inside the church.
