Posted: Updated:

A man suffered minor injuries after walking in front of a car driven by the chief of the Houston Police Department.

Chief Charles McClelland was driving eastbound on Clay Street near Travis Street around 8:15 a.m. Wednesday. He was preparing to turn the vehicle left and did not see anyone in the crosswalk, but as the car turned, a man stepped off the crosswalk and into the path of the vehicle.

The pedestrian suffered minor injuries to his arms and was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center.

The HPD vehicular department is investigating the accident because a city vehicle was driven in the reported accident.

Chief McClelland was not injured.
