HOUSTON (FOX 26) -
A major commuter headache if you travel on Highway 290 in Houston this morning. Texas Department of Transportation workers have been working since 9:40 p.m. Tuesday night to clean up the mess on the westbound lanes of 290 at Mueschke to Mason Road.
According to authorities on the scene the 18-wheeler was carrying a tanker full of a liquid aluminum sulfide, a corrosive chemical when it was involved in an accident with another motor vehicle. The force from that collision caused the 18-wheeler to jack-knife and spill its load onto the highway.
Several Precinct Four Deputies from Harris County had to be treated at the scene after they felt dizzy and faint. They were treated by emergency crews at the scene but not transported to the hospital.
