It's become an annual Gwinnett County tradition. It's a place where people rush to get to – and then rush to get out of!

But, actually making the Buford Corn Maze happen each year is a very, very tall order. Good Day Atlanta paid the maze a visit Tuesday and soon discovered that "getting lost" required a whole more planning that he ever thought!

Not many men choose to mow. But, Rodney Miller says that for him it's a joyride to be out in the fresh air and under blue skies flattening his hard-grown husks.

Miller said, "Growing the corn is a key thing, and then I just have a built-in knack for making these things in my head!"

"These things" are giant mazes cut right into the corn. Miller and his three partners decided that Buford was the right place for them to create a real organic grain game.

He said, "You have people! In rural America, you don't have enough people to make one go."

So, Miller planted a crop, started to chop and, in year one, got a rotten surprise.

"Our corn got killed about one week into the maze, so it doesn't make for nearly as pretty a maze!," he said.

Five years and a few kernels of knowledge later, the team plants in early July.

It's a hot, harsh season; but, results in an emerald city.

Miller said, "The life of corn is about 110 days...and we want it to stay green until the frost hits, which is usually around Halloween, that way it makes for great foliage."

And, big green foliage spread over closer to five acres means an even crazier maze. It's a creation that even the man with the mower says even he can't always figure out.

Miller said, "A lot of people just can't get through it.  We have two towers set up and they help people that can't through."

I think this is what many of us assume about outlet mall shopping -- we get rock bottom prices on everything from clothes to housewares on brand names that are either leftovers from last year or this year's overstock. Well, it's not quite like that.
