DeKalb 6th-grader escapes after man grabs her at bus stop

Posted: Updated:

A sixth-grader walking to her bus stop in DeKalb County managed to get away from a man who grabbed her on Tuesday morning, a spokesperson for DeKalb County Schools said.

Officials said the student, who attends Freedom Middle School, was the only person at the bus stop near Nielson Court when she reached it.

The girl, 11-year-old Jasmin, described the ordeal to FOX 5.  She said a bald white man, wearing a white t-shirt with nothing on from the waist down, drove up to her in a gold Nissan. She said he jumped out of the vehicle and attacked her.

"He tries to grab my by my arm, but I fight back and then I start running," she said.

The man took off in his car; Jasmin ran home and flagged down her mother.

"I told my mom the whole story and then she took me home and she cleaned me up and then she took me to school," said Jasmine.

A school resource officer, counselor and social worker at the school took down the information.

"Our school police officers are trained to go out into the neighborhoods and do investigations and talk to neighbors in the community to try to get some answers," said Horace Dunson of DeKalb County Schools.

A letter explaining the incident was sent home to Freedom Middle School parents.

Police are keeping a close watch on the neighborhood while searching for the suspect. Jasmin said he was bald and stood about 6'2".
