DEER PARK, N.Y. (AP) - Police have arrested a driver who got into a wreck with another car while fleeing from police in a stolen car. His female passenger was seriously injured.
James Darrow of Medford was arrested Tuesday and charged with unlawful fleeing a police officer, reckless endangerment and other charges. It wasn't immediately clear if he had a lawyer.
Officers stopped the 2012 Kia Forte for speeding around 10 p.m. Sunday on the Sunrise Highway's westbound service road in Islip. They later found the car had been stolen.
They say Darrow sped off, then led police on a short chase that topped 100 mph.
Police lost track of the car in Deer Park, then found it crashed into a Chevrolet Trailblazer.
Darrow's passenger, 33-year-old Brooke Moody, suffered serious head and facial injuries.
