Call it a preseason, pre-game.
"It's time to play Cowboys or convicts," Josh Innes, host of the J&R show on 610 sports radio, said.
On the eve of the Houston Texans and Dallas Cowboys Thursday night preseason match up, Innes created a unique trivia game pitting a fan from each team against each other. Justin, a Cowboys fan, took on Reggie, who cheers for the Texans.
"Say hello to Reggie," Innes said.
Justin's hello was met with: " Don't talk to me Cowboy fan."
There doesn't seem to be much love lost between fans of each team. The radio game may have fueled it a bit more.
The game involved Innes reading arrest details over the air, Justin and Reggie then had to guess if it was a Cowboy or convict who was accused of the crime Innes described.
"Nate Newton, that is a cowboy. You are correct," Innes said. Justin got a point.
After Reggie evened the score, Justin scored again.
"It was Hollywood Henderson," Innes said. " That was a long time ago. He claimed he gave the girls drugs for consensual sex, pleaded no contest, and served 8 months in drug rehab as well as 28 months in prison."
But it wasn't long before talk turned to college football.
"Johnny Manziel suspended for a half. Oh my God," Innes said with a hint of sarcasm.
A guest co-host explained the thought behind Manziel half game suspension.
"Essentially, he should've known signing autographs in a large quantity (that) he could've turned around and sold them for a profit," the co-host said.
Innes didn't hesitate.
" I have a bold statement," Innes said. He did."
Over at Rice Stadium, David Baliff's Owls hit the practice field shortly after the suspension was announced. Rice travels to Texas A&M Saturday for the season opener.
"It's never been about Johnny," Baliff said. "We know he's one of the best in the country. If you're gonna go there, might as well play the best. We're prepared for Johnny. We're prepared (for whoever they put in there). We got to beat A&M, not just one guy."
Rice at Texas A&M, Houston at Dallas: two big games, and in case you were wondering about Innes's preseason pregame: "Justin you win, " Innes announced. "Yeah, Justin won."
