STATE FAIR: Some vendors see brisk business despite heat

Posted: Updated:

For some vendors at the Minnesota State Fair, the sticky, sweltering weather is anything but fair -- but others who are doing a brisk bit of business say bring on the heat.

It's been feast or famine for a lot of vendors, but a few of them are earning envy for their endless lines.

"It's been crazy. It's been very difficult for us to keep up with the demand that we have," Chris Gleize told FOX 9 News. "They've been selling very quickly."

Gleize is talking about the dough-sant -- the French Meadow Bakery's version of the cro-nut, a combination of a croissant and a doughnut. So far, they've sold about 1,000 a day, mostly in the morning and evenings.

The mini-donut beer brewed by Lift Bridge Brewery for the Ballpark Café has also become a popular pull. It goes on sale at noon each day, but with a limited number of kegs, they've been rationing the brew to make sure it lasts through Labor Day.

"Today in this heat, even we lasted just about an hour," Dave Theissen said.

The frozen apple cider sold in the horticulture building has been one of the hottest sellers at a buck apiece, with between 8,000 and 12,000 sold in a day.
