Missing Teens’ Case Underscores Need For Parental Vigilance

Posted: Updated:

Harris County investigators have joined the hunt for two teenage girls who went missing on Saturday.

Sixteen year old Liana Andrews and 14-year old Kacie Watson may have gone to meet a man they friended on Facebook.

Tech expert Eric Devlin says cases like this illustrate how important it is for parents to monitor their children's online activities. That includes periodically checking any mobile devices that the kids may use.

Make sure your child isn't giving out too much personal information on social networks, Devlin cautions, adding that it's easy to overlook things like clothing.

"My child loves wearing shirts with her school's name on it," observed Devlin. "If you're a predator and you're looking for a target, at that point in time, if you see a video of my child you will see where she goes to school."

Meantime, the search for Liana and Kacie continues. Despite their families' insistence that the teens' lives are in jeopardy, the girls are still classified as runaways by law enforcement.
