DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -

"Troubled" and "thankful" is Chamblee McDonald's owner-operator John Tamasi's reaction to a section of awning tearing from his restaurant's roof and smashing on the ground below Tuesday morning.

Tamasi says he's "troubled" that it happened and "thankful" that no one was hurt in the incident.

His statement comes about 24 hours after the large section of McDonald's signature restaurant awning tore from its mount and came crashing down onto the walkway below. Fortunately, no one was struck by the massive object left in smashed bits at the fast-food restaurant located on Chamblee-Tucker Road, near I-85.

The following is Tomasi's full statement:

"While I am troubled that a portion of my restaurant's awning collapsed, I am very thankful that no customers or employees were injured. The restaurant is closed while we work with authorities to understand the cause of this incident. As soon as we confirm that the building is secure and does not pose any risk to customers or employees, I plan to reopen and look forward to once again working with my restaurant team and serving our customers."
