Houston Tips Off Season at Toyota Center on Oct. 30
The Houston Rockets open the 2013-14 regular season at Toyota Center on Oct. 30 with a 7:00 p.m. (CT) start vs. the Charlotte Bobcats on CSN Houston, which was announced today by the NBA as part of the 2013-14 league schedule. In addition, the Rockets will play a seven-game preseason slate that will feature two overseas outings in Manila, Philippines and Taipei, Taiwan against the Indiana Pacers.
Highlights on Houston's 2013-14 schedule include the first match up with Kobe Bryant and the L.A. Lakers on Nov. 7 and the defending NBA champion Miami Heat touching down in "H-town" on Mar. 4. The Rockets will play the San Antonio Spurs on Christmas Day on ESPN, which will be followed by the Rockets ushering in the New Year at home for a 12th straight season on Dec. 31 against the Sacramento Kings. Houston will also commemorate Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Jan. 20 at Toyota Center vs. the Portland Trail Blazers.
This season's home lineup features two early visits from division-rival Dirk Nowitzki and the Dallas Mavericks on Nov. 1 and Dec. 23. The new-look Brooklyn Nets with Deron Williams, Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce hit the floor at Toyota Center on Nov. 29. Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors make their lone visit on Dec. 6. The Chicago Bulls led by Derrick Rose hit the hardwood in Houston on Dec. 18. The Memphis Grizzlies and 2012-13 Defensive Player of the Year Marc Gasol invade Toyota Center on Dec. 26 and again on Jan. 24. The New Year will open with games at home against the New York Knicks on Jan. 3 and a return visit by the L.A. Lakers on Jan. 8. The initial rematch with Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook and the Oklahoma City Thunder takes place on Jan. 16, which will also mark the opening of Houston's season-long, five-game homestand (Jan. 16-24). The Rockets meet up at home with Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili and the Spurs on Jan. 28 and Apr. 14. The L.A. Clippers and Thunder make second visits to Houston on Mar. 29 and Apr. 4, respectively.
The team's longest period away from home will be a five-game road trip from Feb. 19-26. In addition, Houston plays 20 sets of back-to-back games.
Houston will be featured on national television a total of 26 times. TNT will broadcast nine Rockets games during the season, while ABC will air one contest. In addition, 10 Rockets games will be broadcast on ESPN and another six will air on NBA TV. Including preseason, the Rockets will be televised 82 times on Comcast SportsNet Houston. All Rockets games will air on the radio flagship SportsTalk 790 AM.
