La Porte Police warn of new burglary trend

Posted: Updated:

A warning from the La Porte police department of a disturbing burglary trend going on in the area.  Police tell FOX 26 that criminals are staking out people at banks and then following those who leave with bank bags.

Once the unsuspecting person leaves the bank, the criminals follow at a safe distance and wait for the car to park.  If the person exits the vehicle without the bag the criminals quickly move in and break into the targets, including smashing windows to steal the bag and other valuables.

La Porte police say if you feel you are being monitored or followed from a bank, call 911 immediately and drive to the nearest police station, fire station, or heavily populated building.  Those areas are typically monitored by video cameras.
