Girl struck by SUV on Long Island

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

A 14-year-old girl attempting to cross a four-lane highway on Long Island was struck by an SUV and critically injured, said police.

The accident occurred in Nesconset at 11:40 p.m. Sunday.

Natalie Maloney of Ronkonkoma was crossing Nesconset Highway at Middle Country Road when she was struck by a 2012 Chevrolet Suburban.

She is hospitalized at Stony Brook Hospital in critical but guarded condition, said police.

The driver of the SUV, Domiciano Rubi, 64, of Brentwood, and his passenger were not injured.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety inspection.

An investigation is underway.
