Man dead after late night shooting in Augusta

Posted: Updated:

AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) - The Richmond County Sheriff's Office is investigating a late-night shooting that left a man dead in Augusta.

The Augusta Chronicle reports deputies found 27-year-old Lamar King suffering from a bullet wound to the chest just before midnight Friday. He died after being taken to Georgia Regents Medical Center.

Authorities said Saturday that investigators were questioning a person they believe shot King, but no charges had been filed. Sheriff's officials said the district attorney was being consulted after deputies talked to witnesses.
