The expansion of the Tilman J. Fertitta-owned Golden Nugget Hotel & Casinos empire continues and this time, the location will be even closer to the tycoon's Houston home base.
Golden Nugget Casinos has acquired the L'Auberge Casino Resort Lake Charles complex and its neighboring property which is currently under construction.
Fertitta announced the expansion plan on Thursday. The gaming license for the pending Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino in Lake Charles is the most recent one issued by the state of Louisiana.
The Golden Nugget location in Lake Charles will include almost 800 hotel rooms and suites, an eighteen-hole championship golf course, a spa, retail shopping, and a sampling of Landry's signature restaurants, an 18,000 square foot ballroom, an entertainment showroom, meeting spaces, a specially-designed pool, beach front and marina.
Vic & Anthony's Steakhouse and Grotto Italian Ristorante are among the Landry's restaurants that guests can visit at the Golden Nugget in Lake Charles, which is projected to open in 2014.
The hotel and casino complex will offer more than 3,000 parking spaces, more than 60 table games, a poker room and 1,600 slot machines.
"I could not pass up the opportunity to build and operate a casino next door to my hometown," said Fertitta, owner and chief executive officer of Golden Nugget and Landry's, Inc. "This casino will be where Louisiana locals and Texans will want to play, stay and enjoy themselves. We are investing nearly $600 million dollars in the project and plan to draw from our large South Texas and Louisiana customer base to drive business to our new resort."
"We are tremendously excited about this opportunity," added Fertitta. "Due to our strong presence with all of our brands in the Texas and Louisiana markets, we are confident that we can grow gaming revenues in Lake Charles, and together with L'Auberge Lake Charles Casino Resort, offer consumers one of the best gaming experiences in the country."
