Expert advice on cutting your auto insurance costs

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

There are basically five factors you can use to determine your rate on insurance. Number one is going to be your driving record.

One of the important things to do when you're trying to get your rate down is to look for discounts. If you lump your coverage in with, for example, your home owner's insurance or a life insurance, then your provider is likely to offer you a discount which will help lower your rate and overall payment.

Also, if you carpool and you notify your agent that three days a week you are carpooling, that's gong to be taken into account.

Be aware that some insurance companies are starting to place a computer chip in vehicles they insure to help them determine how often you are breaking the speed limit and how often you are panic stopping.

Take into account that there are certain pricing factors that you can't control -- your age and gender, for example -- and some factors you can control -- your driving.

There are about 200 insurance companies that offer auto policies in Georgia, so be sure to comparison shop before settling on a policy that best fits your needs.
