Aaron Brooks signs one-year contract with the Rockets

HOUSTON (FOX 26) -

Guard Aaron Brooks told FOX 26 Sports he has returned to the Rockets after signing a one-year contract with Houston.

"I just like it there," Brooks said. "I had other offers (at the) minimum.

"I felt more comfortable taking this one. I'm glad they still wanted me to come."

Brooks was waived by the Rockets last month after his second stint with the franchise.

He had signed as a free agent with Houston in March after being released by the Sacramento Kings.

Brooks was the Rockets' first-round pick, 26th overall, in 2007.

"Honestly, it was a tough decision, a real tough decision," Brooks said. "I had a few (teams that were interested in him).

"New York was one of them. There were about two or three others."

Brooks, who played in China during the 2011-12 season after signing there during the NBA Lockout, felt returning to the Rockets is also in the best interests of his family.

"My kids have moved around a lot," Brooks said. "That's another dynamic about it.

"My kids have been to several places the last couple of years. So it's good to go back to somewhere they are familiar with."

Brooks knows he is facing stiff competition with the Rockets, who already have three point guards in Jeremy Lin, Patrick Beverley and rookie Isaiah Canaan.

"It's a good a team," Brooks said. "I know everybody is concerned about how many guards are on the team, but I think it's good for the Rockets.

"We need Jeremy and Pat and everybody to come out and play great. It's good competition and I'm just happy to be back."

Brooks looks forward to playing with new Rockets center Dwight Howard.

"I always had trouble playing against him," Brooks said. "So it'll be good to have him on my team, finally."
