NJ gubernatorial debates set for Montclair State, William Paterson

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - The sites for two gubernatorial debates this fall in New Jersey are set. They are Montclair State University and William Paterson University in Wayne.

The state election commission, which selects the debate sponsors, announced the choices Tuesday.

Dates have not yet been decided.

William Paterson is partnering with WCBS-TV in New York; KYW-TV in Philadelphia; New Jersey's Gannett newspapers; The Record and its sister paper, the Herald News.

The commission says Montclair State's co-sponsors include NJTV.

Kean University in Union was chosen to host the lieutenant governor debate.

Republican Gov. Chris Christie is running for a second term. His Democratic challenger is state Sen. Barbara Buono of Middlesex County. The election is Nov. 5.

A Point Pleasant resident frustrated with what he sees as slow action on the part of the Borough Council on making the town safer for pedestrians and bicyclists has started a petition urging the council to act. The petition, posted on change.org, said that while the council passed a Complete Streets ordinance last year and commissioned a report, little of substance has been done, Hagemeyer says. The council meets tonight at 7 at the municipal building.
