On Sunday, Faith leaders across the country joined together for the second annual Day of Unity. The event, designed by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is to inspire pastors to preach from the pulpit about HIV/AIDS as a social justice issue. Pastor Sloan of St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church was recognized as on of 8 national Day of Unity Champions. The Champions will also serve as leaders to recruit others in the faith community to unify and join the fight to end the HIV epidemic.
"A part of the vision for our church is to deal with spiritual development, social witness, economic empowerment and health awareness and so body and spirit go together." Timothy Sloan, Senior Pastor, St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church, Humble, Texas
