Superstorm Sandy turned this region upside down, destroying homes, obliterating businesses, ruining coastlines, and uprooting lives. Like so many, I watched as Sandy reduced our beach-side towns to rubble. In the two years that have passed, the focus has been on rebuilding getting people back on their feet. But what if you could fight Mother Nature?Hurricanes are fueled by the heat and energy in warm ocean water.

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - New Jersey is facing a week of hazy, hot and humid weather.

An excessive heat warning is in effect for Mercer, Gloucester, Camden and northwest Burlington counties. A heat advisory is posted for the rest of the state.

Forecasters say the heat and humidity will combine to make it feel like the temperature is in the triple digits. Forecasters say the heat will feel the worst between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. between Monday and Wednesday.

The National Weather Service says the heat is expected to worsen on Thursday and Friday when the heat index could reach 105 degrees.

Forecasters are predicting the heat wave will break with cooler temperatures on Sunday.
