Ambulance hits car on way to beach rescue

Posted: Updated:

LONG BEACH, N.Y. (AP) - Police say a Long Island ambulance rushing to a beachside rescue of a child collided with a car. Three people suffered minor injuries.

The accident occurred Sunday evening at Long Beach Road and East Beech Street.

According to Newsday, fire officials said the child, who reportedly was clinging to a jetty, was rescued by Long Beach lifeguards.

They say two medics in the ambulance and the driver of the car were taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

Authorities say the ambulance struck a utility pole, causing a temporary power outage in the immediate vicinity of the crash.
