Dog set on fire and dumped in storm sewer

Posted: Updated:

Investigators are asking for help finding the suspect who set a dog on fire and dumped it in a northwest Harris County sewer.

Around 10:13 a.m. Saturday morning, Pondersoa Fire Department received a call that smoke was coming out of the sewer at the intersection of Ella Crossing and Burnell Oaks Lane.

When fire crews arrived, they extinguished the fire and found the remains of a pit bull inside the sewer.

Investigator Scott Schoonover with the Harris County Fire Marshal's Office says the incident was captured on a nearby surveillance camera.

"The suspect somehow pushed the dog or dumped the dog into the storm he was lighting it on fire and it was on fire in the storm sewer," says Schoonover.

The Harris County Fire Marshal's Office is working on this case with members of the Houston SPCA.

"The more resources we can get on these situations the better," says Schoonover.

Investigators are asking anyone with information to call the Harris County Fire Marshal's Office at 281-537-5900 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-8477.
