GOP has tough choices on Voting Rights Act

By BILL BARROW
Associated Press

ATLANTA (AP) - The U.S. Supreme Court decision that gutted the Voting Rights Act has caught Republicans between new state autonomy that conservatives covet and the law's popularity among voters even GOP leaders say the party must attract to remain nationally viable.

Congressional leaders must decide whether to rewrite the provision the court struck, while state-level Republicans are busy enacting tighter voting restrictions that Democrats say hurt minority, young and poor voters.

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor is among Capitol Hill Republicans who say Congress should act. But governors like Louisiana's Bobby Jindal are celebrating that they no longer need federal approval for all district maps and election procedures.

All of this occurs amid GOP struggles to win over minority voters who give Democrats an advantage in presidential elections.

The only thing different were the T-shirts on the fans.. Darryl Webster has one of the new ones.. One that says Lamar Texans. He thinks the mascot change is no big deal really."the freshman coming in they're ok with the Texans. I think the community is beginning to adapt to it. Exactly.
