The Houston SPCA will host an inaugural book signing event featuring author Posey Parker and her canine friends, Pickles and Hans, as they promote their new e-book and iBook, "Pickles and the World Cup."
The event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, June 29, from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. in the Adoptions Lobby of the Houston SPCA on 900 Portway Drive in west Houston.
Pickles the dog and his canine companion, Hans, will be signing "paw-tographs" for book lovers, animal friends and soccer fans.
The book details the true story of Pickles, a black and white collie who was renowned for his role in finding the stolen Jules Rimet Trophy (World Cup) in 1966. The trophy was stolen just four months before the 1996 FIFA World Cup in England.
Pickles found the trophy wrapped in a newspaper at the bottom of a hill in southeast London while on a walk with his owner. He collected six-thousand pounds in reward money and the thief was never caught. The fantastic iBook version comes complete with a talking dog in the intro video, 3-D photos, dancing signing mascots and more.
Ten percent of the proceeds from this e-book and iBook will benefit the Houston SPCA and animal shelters across the country.
