MUST Ministries feeds children in summer

Posted: Updated:
COBB COUNTY, Ga. -

A local faith-based organization is setting an ambitious goal to help needy kids this summer. MUST Ministries is working to deliver 250,000 free lunches to Georgia children who may otherwise go without.

In the summer time, children who quality for free school lunches sometimes struggle to find meals.

"We are now giving them an opportunity to have a lunch and the parents still don't have to think about where it's coming from," said Paula Rigsby of MUST Ministries.

MUST Ministries delivers 5,000 lunches every day, some of which come from a Marietta church. Volunteers buy the bread and make the sandwiches and others donate things like juice boxes, chips and cookies.

Fridays are extra special, because the kids also get a book.

Every summer MUST delivers more lunches to more children. This year, they're shooting for 250,000.

"I tell people all the time that you don't have to read books to see miracles happen, because miracles happen every day with us," Rigsby said.

MUST Ministries says there are 60,000 hungry children in Cobb County and another 80,000 in Gwinnett County. The organization says what it needs most right now, is not food, but volunteers to help get lunches out to all the kids.
