Possible hazards remain in water off Jersey Shore

NEW JERSEY (MYFOXNY) -- The 90-degree heat at the New Jersey Shore on Monday was just what beachgoers were looking for but what they weren't looking for could pose a risk of possible injury.

Video obtained by the Jersey Shore Hurricane News in Seaside Park shows lifeguards using rope to pull a large piece of metal that washed up during low tide on Saturday.  Apparently the debris is from a boardwalk ride that once stood on the nearby Funtown Pier, which was destroyed by Superstorm Sandy.

New Jersey officials say they're doing everything possible to monitor beaches to keep them safe. For the most part the sand in most of New Jersey has been replenished and cleared of any debris.

But still, Department of Environmental Protection officials say be extra cautious in case anything pops up.

For months authorities have checked the water with sonar, divers, and by helicopter to spot debris and hazards in the water. Officials say that process will continue until the Jersey Shore is fully restored.
