Air Guardsmen return home from deployment

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

Thursday was the day several local military families had been waiting for. Air National Guardsmen arrived home seven months after last seeing their families.

Members of the 283rd Combat Communications Squadron based out of Dobbins Air Reserve Base were greeted by family and friends clutching signs and flags at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. They were met with applause at the top of the airport arrivals escalator.

"Awesome. This can't be beat," said Sgt. Lee Cason.

The deployed unit leaders have been in Afghanistan since December.

In all, 22 international Guardsmen were deployed, so there will be more happy homecomings at the airport in the next few weeks as they are all expected home by July.
