Man dies after hit by truck crossing N. Decatur Road

Posted: Updated:

A man in his 40's has died after suffering life-threatening injuries when a truck struck him as he tried to cross North Decatur Road in Decatur Thursday.

DeKalb County police say it happened about 9 a.m., when the man and his wife were jaywalking trying to cross North Decatur, near Landover Drive. He stepped through one lane of traffic that was at a stand-still, but was hit by the truck when he then stepped into a lane of oncoming traffic.

The crash briefly shut down the Decatur-Landover intersection; stalling the morning rush-hour commute for dozens of cars along North Decatur Road, near Clairmont Road.

Police say the truck driver was not at fault and was allowed to leave the scene.

The name of the injured man has not been made public. Authorities say the man and his wife were visiting from out of town.
