Resident shoots suspect in home invasion, girl injured

Posted: Updated:

A grand jury will determine if any charges are filed against a resident who Harris County Precinct 4 deputy constables say shot a home invasion suspect. A 14-year-old girl was taken to a hospital after investigators say a shot fired by the homeowner missed her.

Deputy constables arrived around 1 a.m. Thursday to a home on Sweet Grass Trail near Rolling Creek Drive in northeast Harris County and found a male laying on the ground in the front yard with at least one gunshot wound. They later determined that male was trying to break into the home through the back door of the home.

The resident told investigators he heard noise, found a male trying to break into his home, argued with him and then fired at least one gunshot at him.

The male who was shot was taken to Houston Northwest Medical Center in serious but stable condition.

The teen, a neighbor of the homeowner, was taken to a hospital after one of the bullets fired penetrated her home and almost struck her. Investigators determined she suffered a seizure of some sort.
